It’s great for “traffic specialists” to say from their office towers downtown that the community can support a specific amount of traffic based on their “transportation modelling”, however they do not LIVE here, they don’t pay taxes on property here, and their lives certainly won’t be impacted by any changes to our community.
They do not have children that walk these quiet community streets to get to the park or go to school. They do not have dogs that must be walked on the streets and sidewalks of these communities, and they certainly do not drive through these streets on a daily basis.
The residents of these smaller communities within Stittsville enjoy a particular level of safety that the current infrastructure provides.
Can you imagine the impact on traffic of hundreds more people/cars on Stittsville Main right in front of St. Stephen’s? And how confident would parents be to allow their kids to walk across the street to the park when the increase in traffic would mean increased risks to the safety of their kids?
There are already traffic issues in Jackson Trails relating to “forgotten” stop signs, speed and lack of consideration. Add hundreds more people and cars using the ONE entry point, and these problems will only be exacerbated.
I appreciate the advocacy of Councillor Qadri on this matter, and I hope that he will be able to use his influence with his fellow councillors on the Planning Committee, and on Council.
Obviously, this is Minto, so let’s not kid ourselves – they will eventually get what they want. As long as we fight them on it, then we have done our due dillgience as concerned tax-paying residents of the communities impacted by their highly profitable subdivision. If prolonging the process is the best that can be done when developers exercise their influence over City Hall – than that’s what we need to do, and that’s what we need our elected representative to continue to do.
