City wants to turn part of Johnwoods into a bike path

Johnwoods at Maple Grove

We’re used to roads being added to Stittsville, but it’s not very often that we see a proposal to subtract a street.  That’s exactly what the City of Ottawa is proposing for the north part of Johnwoods Street, between Rosehill and Maple Grove.

Johnwoods would be converted into a pedestrian/cyclist corridor, by removing the existing asphalt and creating a 3-metre wide recreational pathway.

The conversion would only happen once Rosehill Avenue and Santolina Street are completed. Rosehill runs east-west, connecting Johnwoods to Huntmar, and Santolina runs parallel to Johnwoods, connecting Maple Grove to Rosehill.

The City is hosting an info session on Wednesday, May 4 in the upper hall of the Johnny Leroux Stittsville Community Arena (10 Warner-Colpitts Lane).  There’s an open house at 6:30pm followed by a presentation at 7:00pm.

For comments or more information you can also contact Shad Qadri’s office, or Kathy Rygus in the City’s Planning and Growth Management Department at 613-580-2424, ext. 28318 or Kathy.Rygus@ottawa.ca
