The damp weather of September 30, 2020 did not take away from the enthusiastic crowd who gathered for the ground breaking ceremony of the new development – Switzer on Main. The development to be constructed is located at the corner of Stittsville Main and Orville Streets. Appropriately named after the long-time Switzer family of Stittsville, the structure will consist of a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments on the second, third and fourth floors, with commercial space on the ground floor. The development is situated beside the original Switzer home.

On hand to celebrate the onset of construction were three members of the Switzer family – Wendy, Barbara, and Bev – all daughters of the late Clifford and Phyllis Switzer. They are all over-joyed that the Switzer name will continue on in the village in which they grew up. The sisters are looking forward to see the building when completed. They hope that their sister, Virginia who resides in New Brunswick, will be able to join them for the opening.

Also joining the team, led by Alan Whitten, Derek Noble and Craig Whitten, partners of Huntington Properties, and were happy to see this day arrive, was Goldie Gharmari, MP for Carleton, who presented a plaque to the group and shared that this will be a positive for the community and Main Street. Councillor Glen Gower expressed his enthusiasm for this new footprint on Stittsville Main and what benefits it will bring to our community. Tanya Hein, President of the Stittsville Village Association was also in attendance for the sod-turning event.

Switzer on Main will introduce a entirely new image and generation of development to our Stittsville Main Street – one that will certainly rejuvenate the main thruway and community.

A pre-registration for the apartment rentals and the project website are expected soon.
