For those financially impacted by COVID-19, the City of Ottawa has actioned an interim property tax payment grace period and a new 2020 Property Tax Hardship Deferral Plan to assist Ottawa residents and businesses.
The City extended a grace period from the March 19 property tax due date to Wednesday, April 15, with no late payment fees applied between the original deadline and the new date in April for those unable to make their payment. The interim property tax bill covers 50 per cent of the entire property tax bill with the next installment due on June 18, 2020.
A 2020 Interim Property Tax Hardship Deferral Plan has been created for both residents and businesses who are experiencing a tough time to meet their property tax obligations. Businesses with an assessed property value of up to $7.5 million are eligible. This figure represents 91% of commercial properties according to the City. The new program extends both the interim March deadline and the final June 18 property tax deadline to Friday, October 30, 2020.
You have until July 31, 2020 to apply and approval will be sent to you by email. All residential and commercial property taxes would have to be paid in full prior to the March 19, 2020 first installment deadline to be eligible for the program.
